Current favorite highlighters

Hi friends!

I am obsessed with highlighters & illuminators lately.  Not so much illuminators as I am highlighters but my goodness are they beautiful!

First, did you know that there definitely is a difference between a highlighter and an illuminator?  No really, there is.  A highlighter is meant to go on the top of your cheekbones, center of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, and on your cupid’s bow.  An illumintor is meant for all over your face, although that can make you look a bit oily so be careful when using an illuminator.  I personally like to mix a liquid illuminator with my foundation when I’m wanting that extra dewy look. I do not do this very often since I do have combination skin and don’t want to look like a giant disco ball.  Highlighters, however, I will put those babies all over the tops of my cheekbones so strongly that you’d be able to see me from outerspace.  I LOVE a good highlighter.  For me, it’s so important to invest in a good highlighter–one that will last all day.  People probably think I’m crazy when I say that I’ve paid $40+ for a good highlighter but hey, YOLO right?

So here are my current favorite highlighters.  I’m sure that there will be some added to the list down the line, especially since I am waiting for the new Anastasia Glow Kit to arrive, but for now, these are the ones that I’m really loving and using on a daily basis.

Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in the shade Lucy– Lucy was inspired by the iconic comedian and sitcom star who will forever be America’s sweetheart. This rosy highlight is ultra velvety and finely milled. We added a hint of golden shimmer to give it dimension and it looks beautiful on the cheekbones or mixed with the blush of your choice.

Retails for $29USD

Oh my goodness!  I am in LOVE with this highlighter.  I also own the Star Powder in the shade, Marilyn, which is equally beautiful but as of late, I am in love with Lucy.  I just love the rosy highlight that it gives.  It’s beautifully pigmented and blends like a dream.  So worth every single penny!!

Becca Cosmetics + Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop–  $38USD

What else you need to know:
For fuller-looking lips, follow lip gloss or lipstick with a dab of Shimmering Skin Perfector™ to the center of your lower lip.

Alright, first…this was supposed to be a limited edition product but Jaclyn Hill announced yesterday that Becca decided to make this shade permanent!  Permanent!!  Oh my gosh!  I am so damn excited for Jaclyn and am so excited that I don’t ever have to worry about this going away any time soon.  I’ve been savoring mine but now that I know it’s not going away any time soon, bring on that highlight baby!  This highlighter is so ridiculously beautiful!  The glow that it gives is truly stunning, it blends out beautifully, and well…it’s extremely pigmented.  I just can’t get enough of this highlighter.  Jaclyn did such an amazing job creating this product.  Sure, it may seem like it has a pretty extreme price tag but it is so beyond worth it!  I love to mix Champagne Pop with the next highlighter that I am going to talk about.  You can purchase Champagne Pop at Sephora and obviously online.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey– $26USD

Illuminate your natural beauty! This innovative hybrid texture applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream, creating a translucent wash of luminous color that can be swept all over the face for a lit-from-within glow. A fresh 3-D design captures the look of our favorite Italian dessert, and lasts until the very last application.

Okay, yes, I know it says illuminator but I only use it as a highlighter.  There is no way that I could put this product all over my entire face without looking like a ridiculous disco ball.  This product is intense!  If you really want a good, glowy highlight, invest in this!  I do mix it with Champagne Pop when I really want an intense highlight.  I tend to want an intense highlight when I’m doing more of a natural makeup look since Gilded Honey really does make you look like you are glowing from within.  If you want your highlight to be more intense, by all means, you apply this product over and over again until you are satisfied.  Oh it’s so gorgeous.  I am so glad that I finally gave in and purchased it.  Every single time I apply Gilded Honey, I swear the clouds part and the angels start singing.  Okay, that may have been a little extreme but that’s exactly how it makes me feel.  Just buy it for yourself and try it.  I promise you’ll fall in love!

And last…but certainly not least…

ColourPop Highlighter in Wisp– $8USD

Lemme wisp-er in your ear, tell you something that you might like to hear, wait till you see our Golden champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome finishes.

Alright, so this one is probably more in everyone’s budget but let me tell you, don’t let the price tag fool you whatsoever.  This is one beautiful, pigmented highlighter.  I have been so obsessed with ColourPop’s highlighters lately.  I need to own every single one of them but right now, Wisp is my current ColourPop favorite.  What I really love about ColourPop’s highlighters, bronzers, cheek colors, and shadows is that they are so different from any other product I’ve tried.  The texture is so different.  Like I can’t even explain it.  It’s one of those products that you just have to get and see and feel for yourself.  It’s not a wet product but it isn’t dry either but it’s also not a cream.  Really though, just check them out and see for yourself.  Wisp is very pigmented but like all of the others mentioned, it blends out beautifully.  I do like to apply anything by ColourPop directly with my fingers as you get the best color payout that way.  Of course you can use a brush but you may need to use a little more product then you would with your fingers.  Either way, it’s fabulous!

Alright, those are my four current favorite highlighters.  As I try other brands and shades, I’m sure I’ll make an updated post but for now, these are what I’m using.  I can’t believe my Mary Lou-Manizer from The Balm isn’t on this list.  That’s an oldie but a goody for sure!  Check that one out as well.  I’ll forever love good ol’ Mary Lou.

Do you have any highlighter suggestions for me?  If so, please leave me a comment and let me know what I should try.
