Love the skin you’re in

I just wanted to take a few minutes and talk about how important it is to take care of your skin especially when you are wearing a full face of makeup.
Removing ALL of your makeup at the end of the day before you go to bed is so, so, so important.  I can not express that enough.  I took the time to really research and learn about the importance of taking care of your skin and I have developed the great habit of removing all of my makeup and cleansing my face before I go to bed no matter what!  No ifs, ands, or buts for this lady.

I have combination/oily acne prone skin.  I don’t like my skin because it’s so problematic.  Dealing with the shine is so annoying BUT I have quickly learned to embrace my natural oils simply because the oils you produce actually slow down the aging process.  Anything that slows down the aging process, I’ll take.  I have had to learn how to deal with it and treat it when it’s excessive. I cleanse, tone, moisturize, protect, exfoliate, and pamper my skin on a regular basis.  I’m going to share with all of you what I personally do to care for my skin.  Keep in mind that this is what works for me and it may not work for everyone else especially since we all have different skin types and problematic areas on our face.  There truly isn’t a one-size-fits-all skin care regimen.  Really, there isn’t.  I do tweak my regimen/routine when hormones kick in and decide to rear its ugly head.  Ugh!  Don’t we all love that part?

Every single night, I remove my eye makeup with an oil-free eye makeup remover.  I personally use the Mary Kay oil-free eye makeup remover.  This stuff will remove anything!  Plus it conditions your eyelashes and it definitely does not sting your eyes so even those with sensitive skin and eyes can use it.  Once I’ve removed all of my eye makeup, I use a makeup remover wipe all of my face to remove as much makeup as I can before going in with my cleansers.  Yes, I said cleansers.  My holy grail cleanser is the Philosophy Purity cleanser.  I can’t live without this stuff.  Once I’ve removed most of my makeup with the wipe, I go in and wash my face with the Purity cleanser and this truly gets rid of all the left over traces of any makeup on my face.  After I rinse that cleanser, I then take an acne fighting cleanser and put it all over my face.  For this particular step, I use a face brush to really get the product deep down into my pores and skin.  I have noticed a huge difference ever since I have been washing my face twice.  Once my face is squeaky clean, I go in with a toner that is specifically for treating current acne and post acne marks/scars. Once that dries, I put an acne spot treatment on any areas that need extra attention.  Since I have basically washed away any and all natural oils, I make sure to moisturize and moisturize well and this includes using an eye cream all around my eyes and brow bone.  Every other night I do use a night serum that consists of fresh vitamins and peptides.  I use a microdermabrasion twice a week and pamper my skin with a good mask 2-3 times a week as well.  This may seem like a lot of steps but since this is my routine, I can breeze right through it.

This is the Mary Kay face brush that I am currently using. The Clarisonic was a little too rough for my skin and this one definitely is more gentle but effective for me.

My morning skin care routine is very simple.  I cleanse my face with an acne fighting cleanser, use the same toner that I use with my night routine, and moisturize with a moisturizer that does contain sunscreen.  I use the exact same moisturizer that I use at night but my day version has sunscreen in it to protect my skin.

Again, this may seem like a lot but this is what works for me.  Take care of that beautiful skin.  Don’t forget to remove all of your makeup prior to laying your pretty head on your pillow.
